Event Description
Led by Public Health Emergency Preparedness Coordinators, this
90-minute workshop introduces Girl Scout Daisies, Brownies, and
Juniors to the basics of emergency preparedness!
Through
discussion and hands-on activities, girls will learn how to stay safe,
healthy, and prepared before, during, and after emergencies, while
building confidence and leadership skills. Participants will split
into groups and rotate through stations including:
1.Glo So You Know
Girls will use Glo Germ to visualize how germs
spread and learn why proper handwashing is important. This activity
helps them understand how clean hands protect not only themselves, but
also their families and community by reducing the spread of
illness.
2.Build a Go Bag
Girls will learn what a
go bag is and why it's essential for emergencies. Working together,
they'll identify items for a basic emergency kit they could use at
home or during an evacuation.
3.Community Preparedness
Heroes
Girls will discover the many people who help keep their
community safe-including public health workers, firefighters, police
officers, and emergency managers-learning how teamwork and planning
play a key role in emergency response and understand their own
important role in staying safe.
Girls will leave the
workshop with a stronger understanding of preparedness and a greater
sense of empowerment. Each Girl Scout will receive a basic go bag to
take home and will be encouraged to talk to their families about how
to customize it to fit their specific needs.
